Home Hemodialysis

The Home Hemodialysis Program is a new service of excellence that allows access to a Learning and Training Programme in order to be possible for the patient himself to perform the hemodialysis treatment at home.

The Learning and Training Programme runs for approximately 16 weeks at the Home Hemodialysis Unit (functioning at our Dialysis Clinic in Lumiar/Lisbon) - specifically designed for this effect. It envolve the candidate, the assistant chosen by him to help, a qualified nurse specifically prepared for this training and the Medical Director of the Programme.

The main goal, during this period, is that the patient acquires theoretical knowledge about renal failure, hemodialysis and practice in using and programming the machine chosen.

We fully assure and provide the logistics of this hemodialysis option, which includes:

• Planning and installation of the different equipment and accessories necessary to carry out the treatments;
• Maintenance and Permanent Technical Assistance of the machine and respective water treatment unit;
• Monthly supply of disposables items in a personalised way.

The Home Hemodialysis Unit promotes:

• The connection of the patient to the Hemodialysis Clinic of origin, namely to the technical assistance team: Nephrologist, Social Worker and Dietician;
• Dialysis at the unit once a month for laboratorial evaluation and monitoring of the treatment;
• Periodical home visits by a qualified nurse of the programme - monthly, every trimester or every semester;
• 24-hour access, via telephone, to the coordinating nurse of the programme.

Our Home Hemodialysis Programme is in compliance with the home dialysis international programme, through which experiences and the most advanced therapies for home treatment are shared.
